SSL-VPN for teleworking and home offices
Teleworking and working from home offices have really been boosted by SSL-VPN technology. This allows remote and mobile users to connect safely to corporate networks without needing specific desktop software.
Upon the introduction of Virtual Private Networking (VPN), specific IPsec VPN-client software became available. Using this software, PC's could set up a secure - encrypted - corporate network connection using an IP-connection. This allowed employees new possibilities to use corporate laptops to work from their homes. At that time, corporate access from random home PC's or PC's in internet café's was difficult if not impossible.
Manufacturers such as Check Point, Cisco and AEP Networks noticed that early on. They developed solutions using existing technologies such as SSL and web browsers to set up safe connections.
Additional security through token authentication
A PC with internet and a web browser, these days is all an employee needs to gain secure access to corporate networks. Qi ict however strongly advises additional use of tokens and an authentication server in order to minimize the risks of password theft.
